good to see some train enthusiasts around these parts. my favorite japanese train might be the Ibusuki no Tamatebako, it's owned by JR kyushu and it's known for being the one that goes to Nishi-Ooyama station, the southernmost JR train station in the country (Okinawan railways are not owned by JR). It was a pleasure to ride it during the summer with a view on the Kagoshima coastline. The station is not too well known because there are only a couple trains a day, and they even sell little miniature versions of the train to take home.
