Geisha in their respective flower towns (hanamachi) do hold public outings though. There are five hanamachi (Gion Kobu, Gian Higashi, Miyagawa-cho, Pontocho, and Kamishichiken) that hold their own respective festivals.

For instance, Kamishichiken holds Baikasai, a plum blossom festival held in February with tea ceremonies performed by the geiko and maiko of the district.
