In some ways it's the opposite of Higurashi (for me atleast). In the beginning/question arcs of Higurashi it seems like most of the characters are bad/evil/insane but by the end of the question arcs most of the characters have been revealed to actually be pretty good people (even Mion's grandma).
Umineko for most of the series the main characters (on Rokkenjima atleast) seem to be flawed but not really terrible/evil people- all of them are shown to have nice/human moments at some point. But now it seems many of the characters that were likeable in the beginning have turned out to be bad guys.

pic related, I really liked Kyrie and Rudolph.

"6 people: Kinzo, Genji, Shannon, Kanon, Gohda, and Kumasawa are dead!"

"The only one who can claim Kanon's name is the person himself! A different person cannot claim his name!"

Utterly unambiguous. In at least game 3, ShKannon fails the red truth test.

"Ushiromiya Jessica has not committed murder."

Jessitrice also fails the red test - in only one step.

"Battler-kun is not the culprit. Battler-kun didn't kill anyone. This can be said of all games."

Battler is DEFINITELY not the killer.

And in every game, Kyrie dies before the conclusion. Sometimes long before the conclusion. This makes her an unlikely option as "the" culprit.

So what do we have left?

For a while there's been theory threads here and there about characters like Battler, Shannon, Kanon, Jessica, and Kyrie. Sometimes Hideyoshi. But isn't it silly to say everyone else is pointless? Let's discuss the "minor" characters and what role they may play. Fuck everyone else.

To start things off, i'm wondering if Rudolf is actually a good guy, wanting to shield Battler from the killer. For example, he tells Battler he might die in EP 1 before he does and he says he wants to discuss things with Battler "about his birth" in EP 5. It isn't strange to think that Rudolf might know a bit about Battler's past, since he's his father. I don't think he seems the type to mend ties with Battler just to kill him on the island, and although he does need a lot of money, I don't think being an accomplice to the killer is his cup of tea either.

In fact, I wonder if Battler was warned beforehand by Rudolf in EP 5 and Battler staged their deaths in order to hide them or have them check things out with "death" as cover, although they do die, so it's a failure. And when everything gets out of hand, Battler tells the truth.

Well, even if we use names and avatars, it's using the 'character' that makes it roleplaying. I mean, we have a Hagrid who hasn't ever read or watched Harry Potter. I've never pretended to be George, either....
