Has there been a patch for the 999 rom that makes playable yet? The original one freezes on the first puzzle.

Haven't seen any new topics concerning 999
AP patch hasn't been made (one that 'supposedly' fixes freezing on the first puzzle is a fake, or at least it doesn't work for me).

However R4 Wood has updated to v1.18 and I've just tested it and managed to get past messing around with the picture frame without freezing, and a lot of people say it works for them. So I think it's a fix.

That's if you have an original R4 still...

If you plan on changing to Wood R4, you'll need to delete your old save for it to work (or else it'll just freeze at the same point)/
