Whoops. Just saw this. Short answer: bits.
5400x2700 ~20 Mbps VP9
8192x4096 ~15 Mbps HEVC
Which one do you think will look better? 2.3x as many pixels with 3/4 the bitrate? HEVC and VP9 are "genmates" - no huge bitrate benefits for one over the other. Plus in my case, my old ass headset slightly outresolves 2700p video, but 8K would be "oversampling", so the loss in bitrate => loss in quality with no tangible/spatial benefit.
