Why is it that Japanese animation has drifted away form the darker tones and shadowing to the blindingly bright and non-existent shadowings? Was there any one show that convinced the execs that this style was better or something? Kind of like the Grimdark-ness of the 90's for comic books? (Fucking Liefeld...)

Any ideas anon?
