It's also important to pick your battles. For example, decimate is a lost cause. I know what it originally means, but there's no longer much cause in the modern world to use it in its original form, so if we sought to preserve it precisely as it was, it would quickly drop from the English language. However, I strive to maintain the distinction between jealous and envious, because they have distinct meanings from one another that are both relevant and useful in the modern day, so to see the meaning of jealousy slowly conflated with the meaning of envy does no-one good because it unduly restricts language and, thus, thought.

For example:
I jealously guard my waifu from glaring eyes.
I envy my waifu's awesome rack.

That's a distinction made possible by the meanings as they should stand, and a distinction that I fear may be lost as envy slowly erodes and is simultaneously replaced by jealousy.
