Originally they tried to make her Queen of Emo and she had a beyond retarded fanbase. It doesn't help her that she looks like a guy in-game, either.

Then people realizes her design is perfect for making her really hot, so they started doing that. Then they started playing up her being a trickster. Then they also started playing her up being a terror. And there's also cuter stuff, like Nuesis and Invasion of the Nue-girl, where she's more of a sub than one would expect of an ancient powerful terrorizing trickster.

True to shape-shifter form, Nue plays basically whatever role is required of her, she plays it well, and she looks a damn fine sight doing it. This is such an astronomical improvement over her initial place in fanon that it's almost impossible to conceive that they're actually the same person.

(The cherry on top came not from fanon, but from XD, where she made her third appearance in four games and trolled the shit out of the Mima fanbase in the process.)
