You forget slimes -should- have evolution as another ability. Or at the very least, have the potential to become incredibly powerful, "magikarp syndrome". Their bodies are protean, some dumbass breaks into your house with a shotgun, if the slime is strong enough (she likely will if she's living with you, steady supply of mana.) she can just make a barrier then strangle the intruder.
