The animators from the Memories of Phantasm anime did a pretty good job doing Ran's proportions. I don't have the webm on hand, but there's a hotsprings scene where she gets up to save Chen and it shows she has some slight toning around her waist and stomach. Something like that is nice, fit but not to the point of ruining that voluptuous feminine figure. Youkai are already strong so adding overt musculature is missing the point, unless you're trying to showcase a character that is overwhelmingly physical such as Meiling and Yuugi where physicality is apart of their personalities as well.
