Never had any issue and frankly I just don't care. As long as you do not disturb others (i.e. having your doll while in a super crowded subway or something) it shouldn't cause any issue.

Then again it depends where you are. Obviously in Japan no one will ever say anything bad just because you are a foreigner.

However there are literally 100's of people turning over or staring at me/my girl everyday when I'm walking around with her. Had people asking me to take picture as well and some wanted her to hold something in her hand and then take a picture. That doesn't bother me. I'll take her out when I'm back home, I'm bringing her at work and to my future travels. I don't want her be waiting alone 12 hours a day in an empty room or a closet.
