I'm no expert on the subject but from the general vibe I've seen for the last ten-ish years:

Not really but there's some crossover, particularly in the east.

At the same time simply due to reputation (western) kigs generally don't want anything to do with (western) furries and vice versa.

Practically speaking Kig is much cheaper and easier although we do lack any makers that people can generally agree is good.
Furries also generally tend to be seen in a more positive light at cons or outside and they've got a huge fanbase to socialise within on top of that.
Kigging in public on the other hand is considered weird and creepy at best and ending with people assaulting you for being a filthy pervert at absolute worst. We also have a tiny fanbase split into multiple circles that all hate eachother so socialising in general is hard outside of anonymous posting.
