Not sure on that, though I admit I have never read all the interviews with ZUN. In at least one interview, he does say he can envision romantic relationships between his characters. But again, I haven't read all the interviews. ZUN is very neutral about his standpoints, and that's probably a bit part of touhou's success. I think he has a yukkuri plush in his room, so I guess he is aware that people on 2chan abuse the fuck out of them in stories

abyuse really is an artform to be studied. Especially because it developed entirely independent of Western "Fluffy" abuse, which ironically shares a lot of its features like slurred speech, impaired motor function, big reproductive capacity, dependence on humans. So in some way, people from all over the world are looking for stress relief by abusing stuff that's "too cute to exist". A psychologist would have a field day on us.
