Her outfit isn't ridiculous on a mystical sense. For comparison, here's what RL magicians wear.

Eirin wears red/dark blue dress (colors of the sky) embroidered with constelations and a complete trigram set on the rim. For me, it's obvious she dresses to demonstrate her link with the entire universe, in a way that's obvious to other magicians. Compare and contrast with Yukari, whose "mystical dress" has a single hexagram.
