I loved it and played through it and Iceborne but MonHun used to feel more like a fighting game with positioning focus mechanics. World's core gameplay loop which doesn't have the hard-locking animations of the older games for both the player and the monster makes the game mechanically easier by their own admission in dev interviews because they can't design damage and healing around the free movement as well. They can't have monsters chip you down like the old games to be threatening outside of Death Veil Val Hazzak, everything has to be a one shot or near one shot in world. Add on the that the monsters were vulnerable as hell in the transition phase between areas, and it's lack of challenge due to things like infinite inventory access and map fast traveling , it is the casual game in the series. Iceborne tried to make the game harder by bloating monster HP and Damage reduction because endgame builds obliterated monsters in sub 3 minutes pre-Iceborne, and to compensate for this they added the clutch claw. The problem with the Clutch Claw is it became mandatory for dealing efficient DPS for most builds. You will always have to incorporate it into your build to deal optimal damage. I still think the series peaked at 4U personally.
