I find it easier to just do regular hatching because then I can follow contours in a certain direction, whereas crosshatching is isotropic. Also it's easier to fuck up two sets of lines. I'll sometimes do crosshatch for things like fabrics or really dense darks, or a kind of interrupted hatch like pic related for wood/rock, but that's about it. Also I don't have any color media aside from throwing the scan into photoshop and coloring with a mouse, so the only thing I've done is album art for https://moon-tone.bandcamp.com/album/downtime-sessions-toho-liquid
