Edited from HF: Each of the 6 members in Tomo's gang (plus other major characters) has their own curse, break the rule and you're dead. In some sort of way the rules are similar to Sharin no Kuni's obligation system. These are what they can't do:

Tomo : being honest (so he must make lies, all of his life as a girl)
Rui : make promise for the future
Akaneko : touch people
Iyo : speak others' name
Koyori : explore new places with her own hands (i.e. not able to open doors to places she has never been to).
Atori: request help from anybody.

However the curse gave inhumane powers in return like supernatural strength, high speed, mind reading etc.
