There's an image I don't have saved that shows the Marisa bomb being a trace from another game, among other inspirations here & there, with Ellen being the most egregious example of being taken from something else.
ZUN has made the art for PC98 regardless, even if it sometimes may be amateur-ish trace to inspirations from the things he liked. It's a little endearing in a way, if you ask me, since ZUN was anywhere from 19 to 21 years old throughout the PC98 era, from the 1st showing of HRTP to MS. I certainly wasnt doing nearly as much at that age, and my own vision for making a game would probably be something along the lines of a mish mash of things I like all put into a single game with more or less subtlety, which is kind of like ZUN.
