Neither production was really bad in any sense of the word. In comparison, JC Staff's job on Tsukihime is far less than stellar in reference to Studio Deen's Fate, as far as coherency, plot, and pacing is concerned.

Fate itself had quite a few flaws (terminology and ideas that were never really given explanation at all, rushed insertion of all three routes toward the end), but presentation and characters and enough loyalty to the original story that fans of the game would be pleased with what they saw. Just as well, new blood looking at it could reasonably be entertained by what they see.

Tsukihime also has a coherency, but it doesn't hold up nearly as well. It has its high points (the amusement park bit was a good show--apparently, if it's one thing JC can do, it's filler), but the rest of it suffered pacing issues and admittedly bad characterization. Though, someone who'd never played the game even once would think that. The fans are disatisfied with the project because a lot of the characterization is washed down severely. Instead of the mystery/horror flavor, the entire atmosphere of the show is gloomy with spots of action. The soundtrack's kickass, though.

But it's not horrible, as many fans and meme fanatics like to trumpet. It's just Tsukihime Bleached--a very weak presentation of the source material that wasn't bad enough to be called horrible, but not good enough to be as satisfying as Project Fate.
