If one were to hypothetically get sucked into Gensokyo, what would you have to do in order to develop a firearm from scratch?
Even assuming you had enough technical knowledge, you would still need to do a lot of networking to get the necessary materials, networking with people that have no reason to not kill you.
I'm going to spit out a couple necessary steps / random ideas
>you would need to find three large pieces of granite or iron in order to develop a perfectly level surface plate as a foundation for precision measurement, beginning with a straight edge
>you would need to develop an arbitrary system of distance units
>Rinnosuke, Nitori, and other people that are curious about items from the outside world probably have something that was made with screws. The screw threads could be used as reference for developing unit measurements
>Although you can never be too wary, I assume youkai like Nitori wouldn't kill an outside human if they have technical knowledge
>a compass for making relatively perfect circles should be easy to create, once you have a straight edge and a compass there is a plethora of things you can do with them such as construction of perfect angles and polygons
>you could also make an arbitrary measurement system from the compass and surface plate; assuming you can make a perfect wheel out of some material (I can't think of a way to be certain about how circular it is beyond eyeballing it, as we don't have a lathe yet) you can mark a point on the wheel and roll it across your straight edge, marking the point of contact on the straight edge will turn it into a ruler
>if you want smaller units of measurement, you use the straight edge to draw a line from that point through the center of the wheel, then use the straight edge and compass to construct a perpendicular bisector so there are now four 90 degree angles in the center of the wheel and four points on the circumference, any angle can be bisected with a straight edge and compass so you can continue doubling the amount of points on the outside of the wheel, therefore doubling the amount of units on your ruler
>the Scarlet Devil Mansion has a clock tower and Sakuya has a pocket watch, if you can approach without getting killed it would be worth investigating where and how the gears for those were created
>Alice stuffs some of her dolls with gunpowder, you need to befriend her somehow (you can probably only do this by befriending Marisa first) so that you can find out where she gets gunpowder
>although you will never be able to make anything as advanced as a modern weapon you can incorporate rudimentary magic into your designs (for example, you could bypass the need for a trigger or a primer mechanism by using some kind of fire magic to ignite the powder)
Not to mention you would need to find somewhere to live and a way to get food on the table during all of this.
