Lampadephoros means "Torchbearer." It's usually associated with the story of how Hecatia saved the city of Byzantium from a night invasion by revealing the sieging army, which is why for centuries afterward you'd see statues of Hecate in later-Constantinople and there'd be Hecate cult temples in the city. Lampads themselves were a gift from Zeus to Hecate after her service in the Titanomachy, along with the additional power over the earth, sky and seas.
