Because most idols are from men's perception. Girls that like idols are a minority. It's not just Japan but every young man now a days are lonely and dont' want a relationship thanks to social media. It just projects fake happiness but people just dig that shit up. That is not how normal people live but they are being perceived they do. Times are getting rougher as well. Money making is getting lower and lower while prices are going up and up. It's cheaper to go support an idol than it is to get a girlfriend and then marry her and have a kid to start a family.
>desirable quality for idols to have a boyfriend
This isn't how it works. If idols had boyfriends they would have less fans since the illusion is gone. Why would I want to go support a girl that I know is getting fucked? Might as well go get a girlfriend at that point. It isn't a stupid reason to like idols that's like saying it's stupid reason to like pizza with pineapples. Idols will forever be in the industry though. Are you claiming chika idols or majority of idols? This needs to be clear since BIG idols will never go out. Idols is a sub culture that won't be gone for hundreds of years.
