Its not a spell given by Poseidon. Its a spell any monster has the potential to learn called "spell of anthropomorphosis." Mermaid can also just crawl/hop on their tail or learn to use their mana to float if they haven't learned that transformaiton spell.

Unless there is some extra lore that's been translated recently that I'm not aware of.

Yes, plus KC has stated there are parts of the ocean controlled by water deities loyal to the chief deity (though they control relatively small areas compared to Poseidon) that the Order often uses. Monsters are less of a problem there, but on the other hand you die like normal in storms and by drowning.

Not as far as I can tell, but I think its one of those things that goes without saying. That is she has the same crease in the usual spot that points to a hidden vagina on girls like the mermaid and such.

Aside from such transformations being temporary, isn't the option to polymorph pretty common in most ANY setting where the usage of magic is widespread?

And I say option because many monster girls don't bother to learn such spells (assuming they are ones that even can). KC's mermaids for instance are as likely to just hop on their tails or learn to hover with mana as they are to learn to transform their tails into human legs.

Even then its noted that polymorph users are not always able to perfectly copy the human form, ending up retaining various monster features.
