I remembered something from the factory scene. There's some lines about how the anaesthetic keeps people from understanding their pain, and about how sometimes it wears off too early. I think this could be taken as a metaphor for understanding the world is a simulation. That's also what blue Miyao could mean when he talks about going back to that hell. If that were the case, then Vier's group are the "them" that need to be stopped, not Toujirou or the Kings. Perhaps what this other "faction" (or at least the ones that could be aware, like Toujirou) wants is to cause the end of the simulated world over and over just to stop Vier from ending it for real? It would be a weird unwinnable game, like that of Beatrice.
