Try not to act like a tourist if you are worried. They tend to be more friendly towards students and people who tell them they are there to study culture, but even so they are pretty nice. We got tons and tons of help from random strangers. Also don't be surprised if you get invited out to drink or to someones home.

The only issue we had was when you walk by the people screaming for you to go into their restaurant, they would flat out ignore us, or even stop shouting period until we walked by.
