The ones who only know about Miku and meme songs aren't even vocaloid secondary though, they are not really part of the fanbase in the same way I'm not a part of the fanbase of most musicians I know just the name and a few hit songs.

A secondary is probably one who only cares about the characters themselves and songs are just a way of writing fanfiction of characters (which is why they probably enjoy mostly producers who write overarching stories through many songs). Frequently they'll say their favorite isn't even Miku (because again, it's the characters personality/role that matters, not the songs, plus hipster points and showing "deeper" knowledge). They'll also be more likely to argue that Vocaloid is dying because songs are not about the vocaloids themselves (or UTAUs) anymore, even if the same amount of songs were being made.

Though like the other anon said, you either listen to the music or not, it's not like you can directly apply the logic of source material vs adaptation when people just listen to another subset of songs.
