Umm, support is a huge waste of time and resources. Since chevrons update, I clear the map in 12-19 sorties every month without using supports, it's just that this month I used 2CAs 1fBB. Airstrike now is comparable to airstrike + support before.
Cranes 改二甲 make the map even easier - for example Zuikaku got chuuha'd on first node in one run but she still hit Wo Kai for 144 damage in shelling on next node. Cranes have great stats overall, Zuikaku evaded two torps of Re (one was double line). When they're supported by Kaga, I can use two bombers on everyone. Big slots for chipping, on final kill I just move Iwamoto to 46 slot to get 422 AS. With Kaga having a ring, all three carriers have great bulk and evasion.

3BB3SS requires supports because nothing changed for them.

I use SKC on Prinz because it's German equipment and she likes it. Likewise I use max 20.3 (2) on Ashigara because she came with them. Yes, I know 20.3 (3) are better and I use those (only +6 so far) on other CAs. Call it stupid but it's a part of fun to me and doesn't make a huge difference in performance.

It was my sixth time clearing 5-5, not sure if it counts as new, probably yes.
