How about this? The fact that Erika had the freedom of movement necessary to stalk that man and collect evidence on him suggest she was beyond the age of compulsory education! Her largely equal standing in their relationship argument points to this being a relationship between peers! The Erika in that relationship was an adult, of college-age at least.
