Step one: Don't assume you're bad at memorization
you just started, you just dont have a working strategy yet
Step two: add context and action to your memorization to help you learn
https://kana-quiz.tofugu.com/
using this (and later anki) will help you drill it in.
Step 3: learn the stroke orders for yourself.
the difference between れ わ feels a lot better when you have a tactile thing behind it
Step 4: go easier on yourself. getting pissed off because you arent as good as you want to be yet is going to make you hit a brick wall and get frustrated and quit. You aren't stupid you're just an omega beginner at something that takes thousands and thousands of hours to master.
Step 5: When you get to kanji (which are harder) try learning the radicals first and memorizing the kanji through mnuemonics of the radicals if you feel like your visual memory is still lagging. Remembering the Kanji is a book worth reading.
