Bern at least gets a backstory and the clear connections to Rika also certainly helped her popularity and to fill in the gaps that were left. In spite of her being a one dimensional villain during the climatic parts, you do get other aspects of her character in a few scenes.

Lambda in comparison was kept too much of a mystery, without a clear origin of her own, and in spite of being hyped up as an older witch than Bern who had more connections in the Witch world you don't actually see any of that, only how she relates to Bern.
