She is half-phantom. As in, her higher soul exists outside of her body as a wispy white thing, making her essentially half-dead. This has various weird effects, like making it hard for Miko to read her. If Rinnosuke is reliable, half-youkai are also affected only half as much by things like human diseases and anti-youkai attacks.

As for her personality... "half-baked" sums it up pretty well. She's a loyal servant but she's young, doesn't have a good idea of her own limits, and has trouble thinking things through or reading into them beyond the surface level (meaning she can barely understand her own master). She's good with her sword techniques, but doesn't really get the philosophy behind them or when best to use them.
