I've been reading for a while. I completed FF7 with an online script I found and I've read a couple of manga. Looking up every single word. Putting sentences in deepl when I still can't understand them.

I still can't read worth a crap without looking up every word. Over and over. Never memorizing shit it feels like. As for the spoken language? Fucking forget about it. I understand like 20 of the most common words and nothing else they're saying.

I tell myself if I keep playing games, listening to podcasts, and reading jp message boards for 6 hours a day this time next year I will pass N1 or at least N2 but honestly at this point it sounds like a giant cope and I should just give up my dream of being a translator and go work and Walmart and dump my entire salary into bitcoin and if that doesn't work then check myself out. I'm 31. It's over.
