Despite having similar names, the Egyptian goddess Heqet (also called Hekat or Heqat) and Hecate aren't related in any way.

It is due to Hecate's peculiar origins and standings that the only natural conclusion to explain this is is that she is not Proto-Greek in origin, but was imported from another culture. In truth, Hecate actually originates in Anatolia, or the region of modern-day Turkey among the Carians, with inscriptions to Hecate being found in Miletus, close to Caria. Hecate may not have been a goddess of sorcery and crossroads, but may have originally started off as a sun goddess of the underworld (so rather than being pissed off that someone shot out the sun in the underworld, she was pissed that someone shot HER with an arrow!).

Hecate may have been derived by the Proto-Greeks from the Anatolians/Hittites from Arinna, who worshipped Arinniti, or UTU, who was the most important solar deity in their religion and may even be considered to be a chief deity, alongside her consort and weather god Teshub. It also bears mentioning that UTU may have melded together with Hepat, the mother of all living things, queen of all deities, and goddess of the Hurians. So in short, Hecate was actually the queen of deities and chief deity of the Anatolian regions and held so much more power than she would enjoy as being part of the Greek pantheon as Hecate, who imported her into their religion as a Titan. The connection between Arinniti and the underworld comes from the fact she rules in two courts, essentially. In the day she shines over the living and at night, she illuminates the underworld. This is shown even in Greek mythology with Hecate being able to move between the realm of the living and the dead freely, as she was able to do as Arinniti, Arinna, UTU, or even Istanu.
