XD, more than any other game, encourages flailing around like a spaz at or near the top of the screen, due solely to the spirits gimmick. Everything is fueled by spirits (lives, bombs, the guage), so you can't just ignore them up there. And then some random fairy flies in from the side of screen and smacks right into you.

The game is a little bit like UFO in that playing it enough to plan out when you head up top, when you stay down, and when you fire off the trance early to double the life/bomb spirit bonuses goes a long way. With even just a little bit of planning, if you bombspam Yoshika's non-cards, the game offers little to no challenge before Stage 5.
