It's really dependent on when it happened and how many years I have left in life, personally. It would probably take years to be ready for another relationship on top of that. If we're both old farts, and she drops dead first, then of course I'll just ride out the remaining years solo.

I'm going to say my rule of thumb is that you need about 5 years after your long term partner dies for you not come off as skeevy, maybe more if people could suspect foul play.

But the saying is "til death do us part", emphasis on parting. If you set your story in typical vanilla MGE, you might run into questions like "why didn't she make your dad undead or something" though.
