1 and 2 were a lot more tongue in cheek with several gag characters in Daruma/Team Hormone/Team Fondue/Mii-chan basically making fun of the whole thing. The setting felt a lot more alive and Majisuka really felt like a populated school. The plot got ridiculous especially in 2 but in an over the top and silly fashion that still remained fun and entertaining.

5 is completely serious maximum edgelord drama from start to finish and is painful to watch at points given how depressing and somber everyone is. There is zero joy in the series.
