AKB48 boasts an overall larger exposure than MM with 3 TV shows, 3 radio shows, 3 magazine columns against just 3 radio shows and a TV show nobody watches because its unappealing to both wotas and regular human beings.
While Momusufags lose control of their bladder at the news of Ayaya getting a lousy co-protagonist role in a drama at last, Atsuko Maeda alone already has a track record of four, and this without counting all the appearances by Akimoto Sayaka, Miyazawa Sae, Kojima Haruna and the like.
While AKB48 is rubbing shoulders with Aso after being invited to the annual cherry blossom ceremony, the closest MM had gotten to a important figure in years is having a Koizumi sham trying to lop off Mirakuru-chan's forearm with a pocket guillotine.

Now, onto the comparison...
You know when the Wii and the PS3 were announced? Nobody would have ever bet a dime that the former would have proven a success in spite of the latter. Too risky, too unconventional, "lol penis joke", "two GameCubes taped together", etc. Meanwhile, tons of nerds looked forward to spend the night of the PS3 launch day camped outside of marts, ready to shell out 600 bucks for the new big toy thinking they would get a lot of mileage out of it from day one. Bunch of fags, ain't it?
