It's honestly a pretty good idea, although you'd have to sell the idea of Maria knowing about poisons without it feeling out of nowhere, while also not being too transparent and making it clear that Maria would likely have something to do with the deaths that seem rather similar to deaths via poisoning.
There are a few motives you could come up with, especially since the original purple mystery from EP8 has Battler act differently from what we know of him, thus allowing you to bring out ideas that wouldn't be seen as possible normally. Perhaps Rosa's abuse drives her crazy, seeking revenge on her family while hiding it under an immature act, each slap from Rosa serving as another reminder of what she has decided to do. Or perhaps you could go down the route of Battler meeting up with Rosa's family before the conference, with Maria and Battler building up rapport together. One lonely night, one thing leads to another, and the two are now inseparable. Add in Battler solving the epitaph, and you have a quick and easy Battler-Maria culprit backstory.
It's what I enjoy most about purple mysteries: the freedom to both be obvious, and yet still mislead the reader, as well as the freedom to change the shape and paint of our usual pieces to create an entirely new chessboard, whilst still adhering to how the original mystery worked.
