Hello /jp/! I am a gaijin but here I go.

Tomorrow night I am supposed to go to an "otaku party" with a group of people from which I know only one person. My goal is to learn as much about the otaku culture as possible in 24 hours so I can keep a conversation going without staring at a person wondering what the fuck he/she is talking about. The things I know about this group is that they like to watch anime and read a lot of manga. I also know that the first stop of the night will be at a Japanese restaurant.

What are some things you should never say to an otaku person?
What should I order at the restaurant? (the classic sushi?)
What are some of the most discussed anime/manga these days?
Is there any website that could help me reach my goal faster? (learneverythingabouttheotakuculturein24hoursorless.com doesn't seem to exist)

How do I get these tripcodes to work? Something about converting to Shift_JIS or something? I am trying and I used to be able to do it in notepad++ but it's not coming out right any more.
