Japan never had something that could be called democracy in their so-called history. First it was the shoguns, who ruled peasants as if they were cattle. Then the emperor regained power and he appointed himself God on earth so that gullible barbarian commoners would execute any of his commands without objecting. Finally, modern days Japan is the same as its old self, except it has less self-imposing suits instead of feudal lords.
Japanese know they cannot rebel to the high-ranking powers. They spent so many centuries sacrificing their body and soul to them that it has become a staple of their morally bankrup society, so they have no other escape but drinking themselves to unconsciousness.
