Yeah, the balloons & T1 Gun Tank let the DDs punch a bit more above their weight at the boss. It's often surprising how well they handle H node & it's not unusual to get perfect S vs harbor hime. RE's are nice to have but aren't really needed for the light fleet.

However, the light fleet will suffer if it's 4-5 LD.

Asides from all the others mentioned, Amagiri K2 is useful because she prioritizes PT imps & gives an anti-PT accuracy bonus to the ships next to her, Miyuki K2 is the best DD for shelling support expeditions & Ryuuhou K2 is currently the best CVE, but she'll cost you a catapult.

It's also worth producing multiple Zuihou K2/B since she's a powerful light carrier who only needs ammo & steel for remodeling.
