I'm not even sure how much we can blame Ryukishi for this one.
Since the Oni artist gets a "draft" credit alongside the "manga" credit, while the Reiwa mangaka only get a "manga" credit, it's likely that Ryukishi is even more hands off than usual with this one.
I wouldn't be surprised if he only sent over a bunch of bullet points this time and left the rest of the story up to the artist, and then just signs off on everything because he always lets adaptations do whatever no matter how much it fucks up the story.

I do wonder what pronoun Ritsuka uses, though. If she's also "boku" it just makes everything regarding Rika's mom even more retarded.
