Mikos are supposed to be virgins.

The Hakurei Shrine is maintained by the Hakurei family.

Thus Reimu's mother was a miko.

How is this possible? Mikos cannot be nonvirgins. If her mother retired to have children then who was the interim miko? How does the Hakurei name pass on through generations when shrine maintenance is matrilineal? Do the husbands adopt the Hakurei name?
