Ok, I dug up some information about it and you're right. I thought the only two variables were the diameter and RPM, but I guess groove density is variable too, which is the factor limiting the frequencies?

It's hard to find good technical info on vinyl records, most results are either CD vs Vinyl flamewars or the retarded audiophile bullshit. But this site answered most of my questions:

From that and some other pages I read it seems to be impossible to just casually dump your digital master onto a vinyl record like you do on a CD, but a lot more work has to go into it. So I hope that they won't half-ass it, with all the big-name producers they brag about in the 2014 Apocalypse and what not.
