Following on from this >>19037976 post, might as well ask how did you get into mahjong, /jp/?

>Come to uni in 2015
>Meet some people who have similar interests to me and high power levels
>They all talk about anime which I don't really care about
>Eventually start to watch more to try and get a taste in it
>Find out about Kaiji from them and absolutely love it, finish it all in a week and a half and I never do that with anime
>Summer 2016, hanging around their house
>They're talking about some guy who apparently has 42tb of anime downloaded and has seen everything, but when they asked if the guy had seen "Akagi", he didn't know what it was
>Take note of Akagi since I didn't want to be made fun off
>Go home and watch it
>"Oh, it's by the same guy as Kaiji"
>Didn't understand a fucking thing, but finish it in a week and a half
>Thought Mahjong was interesting, but found it too hard to understand.
>Eventually read Kaiji part 3 and it's ALSO about mahjong, though it's my favourite part
>Months pass and talk to my friend who mentioned Akagi and tell him I've watched it
>He says he can teach me if I'm interested
>By October that year I knew how to play Mahjong, a game I thought was impossible to learn

Now I own a set and mat and play it regularly on weekends. I even taught around 20 people how to play it at a society I run at uni. It's also a selling point for that society.
