This is the only part of your post that is correct. But only because chronologically speaking the west has influenced Japan at least since the 15th century A.D. while the recent economic and political trends started in the late 20th century.
Of course much could also be said over western policies. Contemporary political, economical, and moral standards in the west are also relatively recent. Just a hundred years ago universal suffrage was extremely uncommon whilst today most westerners could hardly think of it otherwise.

If these newfangled ideas of how life ought to be turn out to be wrong and collapse tomorrow then contemporary standards will become nothing more than an obscure chapter in history books.

Similar criticisms can therefore be justified about western influences towards the west itself. Of perhaps simply towards the degeneration, convolution, and self-deprecation of society in general.
