Holy fuck, I finally beat it. Ever since I equipped repair crews as advised, I repeatedly got my ass handed to me by the first BB battle and never had a chance to get past the watchdog. This time I finally made it there (after the damn north route sent me back south yet again) and got the easiest formation and reached boss with no one below 50%. Damn good thing too because I got the 2 BB boss fleet and needed night combat with Kaga and Kongou both red from day combat. Even better, I got I-58 as the drop. And even better than that is never having to touch that fucking map again.

The interesting thing is, in all those runs, Mutsu was the most uncrittable ship in my fleet with her 5 luck, I'm not sure she took a single one (this run she started out at 75/90 and just ate a bunch of small hits) She started out as just a backup too, I ended up putting her in full-time after getting sick of KTKM's shit (miss all her attacks then eat a huge non-crit and fail my run). I have no clue how the damage calculations work out, but I have to figure that her having 95 armor instead of 89 (against the 90 firepower flagship BBs) makes a huge difference in crits. Clearly, crits aren't just about luck, considering your BBs will crit DDs and CLs virtually 100% of the time.

Practice battles seem like such bullshit in general. I get endless misses against opponents with lvl 10 ships, then effortlessly crit lvl 80s. It also feels way way harder to win after that flagship protection change, I kept getting battles where I crushed the opponent but didn't damage their flagship, C rank. I know the flagship always counted for more, but it seems like it's even more extreme now on top of it being protected.
