Not >>3923511 here, but :
They're part of the sprite once you extract the alpha channel. If you don't, well the sprite is transparent (see attached pic).
I'll install ImageMagick and look for a way to solve this.
Also, yes, as >>3923709 said, the PS2 background pictures and sprites have a different size than the PC ones. They'll need to be resized, but I'm sure this can be automated.
