well, i was half joking there as newer CDs can survive at least 50 years without complicated storing method (eg. simply store it vertically inside of it's jewel case), but lots of pre-2000 CDs does have way shorter shelf life.
you can also keep your CDs in a controlled humidity (and preferably temperature too) storage or room if you're that paranoid about it's durability. i'm dirt poor though so i just simply store them inside a shelf with some cheap dessicants like the one on picture.
