Allow me to get armchair psychological on you for just a few moments. Please, please, just humor me for a moment.

The primary reason for the "idolfag" mentality being detrimental is that from the perspective of you, the afflicted viewer, there is a female that is seemingly broken and hurt the same as you. A female that is equally damaged as you are as a man, but she inspired herself and others to become better. Only, this was not the case. The curtain gets pulled and you realize the seemingly broken female that was, under your assumption, in the same situation as you (or at least was) is actually a well-adjusted person that is well and beyond over their troubles and are currently living peacefully and have been for longer than initially thought.

This is the same effect as when people with no jobs are told by boomers to just go get a job. Or when they're told by others that already have stable and seemingly permanent careers to just work on whatever. Or when a really happy friend just tells his depressed suicidal friend to be happy and stop being sad. I do believe by now you get what I'm saying with this. You get lectured by someone that seemingly pretended to know what you were talking about, or they pretended to be a part of that. Only, they weren't. Maybe they used to be, but not anymore, therefore how could they possibly know?
